Industry Applauds FERC-Colorado Deal On Small Hydro Development

The hydropower industry is applauding a recently signed agreement between FERC and the state of Colorado to streamline the licensing process to get small hydropower projects on line, according to industry and FERC sources, who also say the agreement is part of a broader FERC effort to support the development of small hydro projects as a renewable energy source.

White House Stresses 'Nuanced' Smart Grid Policy To Protect Consumer Interests

Top White House officials say the administration is pursuing a "nuanced approach" to smart grid policy that will both expand the deployment of a digital electricity system and protect consumer interests, responding to strong concerns raised earlier this year by consumer advocacy groups that a proposal put forth by a broad smart grid coalition could be "devastating" for consumers.

NARUC Urges Federal Court To Lift Stay In Cases Over DOE Yucca License

State utility regulators are calling on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to lift its stay on several cases before the court challenging DOE's legal authority to terminate the contentious Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository program. The regulators are seeking an expedited briefing of the cases, which are at the heart of a major fight over the future of U.S. nuclear energy policy.

Industrial Groups Charge MISO Collusion In Seeking FERC ISO Debate

The Electricity Consumers Resource Council (ELCON) and seven other organizations representing industrial energy consumers are charging that the 13-state Midwest ISO (MISO) violated FERC's requirements for responsiveness to all stakeholders in its region by allegedly "colluding" with a single utility. ELCON is requesting FERC initiate a debate on the crucial issue, which the council and others believe is a widespread problem among ISOs and RTOs besides MISO.
