Utilities Say FCC Proposal Would Undercut Obama Smart Grid, Energy Goals

Major electric utility groups are arguing that a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) proposed rule on so-called "pole attachments" could undermine Obama administration policy goals on smart grid, energy independence, energy efficiency and cybersecurity by undercutting utilities' flexibility in negotiating contracts with cable, internet and telecommunication firms that want to attach communications hardware to utility poles, according to the comments and utility industry sources.
