Pledging ‘Robust’ Enforcement, EPA Issues Final HFC Phasedown Rule

EPA is unveiling its final rule to phase down production of climate-warming hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) used for refrigeration and other purposes, with Biden administration officials also pledging a “robust” interagency enforcement effort to block illegal imports of the chemicals. The final rule being released Sept. 23 would implement the American Innovation & Manufacturing (AIM) Act’s requirement of an 85 percent cut in production and imports of HFCs over 15 years.
