GAO grants request to review EPA’s RFS waivers

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) is granting a request from a bipartisan group of 12 House lawmakers to evaluate EPA’s issuance of 40 renewable fuel standard (RFS) waivers for the program’s 2018 compliance year, in particular assessing the agency’s use of Energy Department (DOE) advice on granting the exemptions. Under the RFS, EPA sets annual production goals for alternative and renewable fuels that have lower lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions than conventional gasolines.
