Environmentalists Issue Legal Warning Over Power Plant ELG Deadlines

A coalition of environmental groups is charging that EPA’s proposed power plant effluent limitations guideline (ELG) rule violates the Clean Water Act (CWA) by proposing a deadline for facilities to comply with updated wastewater treatment standards beyond the three-year limit the law allows. “The CWA requires compliance with the ELGs no later than three years after the limitations are promulgated.
