EPA Eases RCRA For Airbag Removals But Keeps Hazardous Waste Status

EPA has issued an interim final rule that conditionally exempts auto dealers and salvage vendors from hazardous waste requirements when removing and handling recalled and other airbags from vehicles, in a measure aimed at expediting the removal of millions of defective Takata airbag inflators under an ongoing federal recall. But the rule still requires the airbags to be deemed hazardous waste under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) once sent to collection points, and they must still be disposed...
