Peer Reviewers Float Path For Cr6 Assessment To Avoid Strict Risk Level

A majority of the panel peer-reviewing EPA’s Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) assessment of hexavalent chromium (Cr6 or CrVI) is agreeing that the chemical is “mutagenic” but suggesting that the agency could still avoid the stringent approach it usually takes to mutagens -- potentially assuaging industry fears that the assessment will trigger extremely strict new rules.
