Wastewater groups are urging EPA to better justify the need for developing water quality criteria based on indicators of viral phathogens, saying current scientific knowledge appears insufficient to support such criteria and that an agency literature review failed to demonstrate the viral indicators perform better than bacterial indicators in preventing illness.
