EPA Eyes More Stringent Controls On Coal-Fired Power Plant Effluent

EPA is planning to propose a supplemental rule addressing power plant effluent limitations guidelines (ELG) in fall 2022 that could require coal-fired power plants to install new technology to better limit discharges of toxic metals and other pollutants, after concluding a Trump-era ELG could be strengthened. EPA announced July 26 it would move forward with a supplemental ELG after concluding a review of the Trump-era rule that revised the requirements in an Obama-era rule for “best available technology economically achievable”...
