LOW CHEMICAL SUPPLY LEADING ARB TO GRANT PRODUCT RULE VARIANCES

Reportedly low supplies of a hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) chemical that emits fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in personal care products is leading the air board to grant six-month variances to two major companies, allowing noncompliant products to be sold in the state. The short supply of the chemical -- HFC-152a -- has been created by increased demand from Northeastern states that have mimicked the air board rule, as well as production disruptions at DuPont facilities, according to sources.
