SMITH, LAUTENBERG DRAFT VIABLE BIPARTISAN BROWNFIELDS BILL

Environment & Public Works (EPW) Committee leaders have apparently drafted new bipartisan brownfields legislation that provides Superfund liability relief to neighbors of a brownfields site and perspective purchasers of the land to encourage the redevelopment of abandoned sites. Sources say that EPW Chairman Bob Smith (R-NH) and Superfund subcommittee Ranking Member Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) are putting the finishing touches on the bill and could introduce the measure as early as this week.
