ACTIVISTS EYE UTILITY WASTE PROPOSAL AFTER EPA REJECTS FACA REQUEST

Environmentalists may draft their own proposal on mandatory rules for disposal of coal combustion waste (CCW) to submit to EPA, after the agency rejected activists' request to establish a Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) panel in order to develop long-pending regulations on disposal of the waste. Several environmental groups late last year met with EPA waste chief Susan Bodine urging her to establish a FACA panel to draft regulations on disposal of CCW from coal mines, landfills and surface impoundments...
