VOINOVICH BILL WOULD WAIVE SOVEREIGN IMMUNITY UNDER SUPERFUND

Sen. George Voinovich (R-OH) -- the former governor of Ohio -- last week introduced a bill that would broadly waive sovereign immunity for the Defense Department and other federal facilities subject to several federal cleanup programs, including Superfund cleanups, natural resource damage restoration and hazardous waste management rules. The bill, S.2590, is largely aimed at boosting states' roles in federal cleanup and waste management programs.
