Fuel Economy Rollback Plan Draws Near After OMB Completes Review

The White House has completed interagency review of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) proposed rollback of fuel economy standards, suggesting that the release of the long-awaited plan may be imminent. The upcoming proposal will be NHTSA’s second step to undo current fuel economy requirements, after it issued a final interpretive rule that rejects inclusion of electric vehicles (EVs) in the fleet baseline before setting fuel economy requirements.
