Newsom Enacts Ban On PFAS In Firefighting Foam, New Reporting

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has signed legislation banning firefighting foam from containing per- and polyfluroalkyl substances (PFAS) beginning in 2022, joining Colorado, New Hampshire, New York and Washington in similar bans. In addition to the ban, the new law requires manufacturers of firefighting protective gear to provide a written notice to the buyer at the time of sale that informs the buyer as to whether any PFAS were “intentionally added” to the protective gear.
